India was the first country outside Great Britain to take up the game of golf. The Royal Calcutta Golf Club, established in 1829, is the oldest golf club in India and the first outside Great Britain. Furthermore, the golf course at Gulmag, at an altitude of 2,700 meters, is the world’s highest located course, and offers one of the most scenic golfing opportunities in North India. India has golf courses in the mountains, plains, deserts and at beach resorts, most of them surrounded by natural beauty. Golf enthusiasts in India continue to grow in numbers, and new courses are added almost every year.

Several tour operators arrange golf tours to India, covering places like Delhi, Mumbai, Jaipur, Bangalore, Chennai, Kolkata, Pune, Hyderabad, Gulmarg and Srinagar. Although caddies and golf kit can be easily hired at most Indian golf clubs, it may be a good idea to bring your own golfing equipment including a supply of golf balls, since golf equipment produced in India not always is of Western standard.
