Hotels in India
Good budget hotels in India are not hard to find and cheap travellers' hotels are numerous in big cities where you can get a room for less than 10 USD. Rooms at guest-houses with a double bed are even cheaper, and can be found at many tourist destinations. Two important factors to keep in mind when choosing a place to stay are safety and cleanliness. Malaria exists in certain areas of India and one of the best ways to combat malaria is to choose lodgings with air conditioning and sealed windows.
Midrange options are also plentiful, especially in larger cities. Dependable local chains include Country Inns, Ginger and Neemrana. Local, unbranded hotels can be found in any city, but quality varies widely. Do not count on having a reliable electricity supply if you are not staying in an upmarket hotel.
In the top end of Indian hotel chains are the Oberoi, Taj and ITC Welcomegroup, who operate hotels in all major cities and throughout Rajasthan. Also the usual international chains run 5-star hotels in most Indian major cities. Be sure to look into prices before you book at an upmarket hotel. Sometimes prices can be very high due to tight availability and strong demand. Also be aware that some jurisdictions, including Delhi and Bangalore, charge significant luxury taxes on the rack rate of the room, which can lead to an unpleasant surprise at check-out time.
