Sharp cliffs of hills and narrow valleys of the Aravallis dominate the landscape of Sariska, whose forests are dry and deciduous. The Sariska park is home to numerous predators including Tiger, Leopard, Wild Dog, Jungle Cat, Hyena and Jackal. These feed on prey such as Sambar, Chitel, Chausingha, Wild Boar and Langur. Sariska is also well known for its large population of Rhesus Monkeys.
By 2005 Sariska had lost all its tigers due to poachers, and for 3 years there were no tigers in Sariska. In June 2008 a tiger and a tigress where relocated to Sariska from the nearby Ranthambore Tiger Reserve.
Sariska was known as the royal reserve of the rulers of Alwar. The palace, built by the Maharajas of Alwar, has now been converted into a hotel. Within the area of the Sariska sanctuary is also the ancient Shiva Temples, the Neelkanth temples, that dates back to 6th-13 century AD, now in ruins.
Sariska Wildlife Sanctuary is located 107 kilometers from Jaipur airport. The nearest railway station is at Alwar (37 kms). Sariska is well connected with Alwar, which is furthermore connected with bus services from Delhi (200 km) and Jaipur.
Visitors can visit Sariska Wildlife Sanctuary throughout the year, but the best period is during the months October to June.
