Hotels and ski resorts in India are limited, but with the Himalays for a playground you are guarantied a great snow coverage and the extent of terrain is almost unlimited.

Skiing in Jammu and Kashmir is a thrilling and exciting experience. The Ski Club of India was established in Gulmarg in 1927. Gulmarg is considered to be among the best skiing areas in India. Located at an altitude of 2,730 meters, the gondola dumps you off at an altitude of 4,000 meters, from where you have the entire mountainside at you disposal, and the most magnificent view. Gulmarg also offers heliskiing for winter sports lovers. It is Asia's only heliskiing resort and in fact after Canada, Kashmir is the best option for those inclined towards heliskiing.

Skiing can also be enjoyed at Patnitop, located 112 km from Jammu. Patnitop is located at an altitude of 2,024 meters and is a great skiing destination. During winter months there are introductory courses for tourists/beginners at the more gentle slopes of Patnitop. Other ski resorts in India can be found in Garhwal, Kumaon, Uttaranchal, Kufri, Narkanda and Manali. Best time to go skiing in India is December to March.

Getting to ski resorts in India often involve a bit of a journey. An internal flight from Delhi is normally required, as well as a transfer at the other end. To get to Gulmarg for example, you will need an internal flight to Srinigar and a 60 minute taxi ride from there to the resort.
