Tourist Trains
A journey on one of the famous luxury trains is a wonderful way to experience the sights in India without having to worry about the hassles of travel and accommodation. The trains have luxurious carpeted rooms with traditional furniture and all modern amenities, as well as traditionally dressed attendants pampering the guests with delectable local and international cuisine.
The trains are operated jointly by Indian Railway and the state tourism departments. There are four major tourist trains operating in India at present: Palace on Wheels that covers important tourist attractions and historical sites in Rajasthan; Royal Rajasthan on Wheels which is a new train operating from January 2009 and covers the most important sites in Rajasthan, the train has all the facilities which Palace on Wheels has along with international spa center and other facilities; Deccan Odyssey, a luxury train that transports its guests on a weeklong journey through some of the best places in Maharashtra and Goa; and Golden Chariot that takes travellers on a weeklong journey through Karnataka and Goa.
